Wednesday Tuneage – Remembering Odetta

You probably know that we lost the music and civil-rights legend Odetta yesterday. I’ve been listening to her soaring voice all day and came across the following video. Many people need to be reminded that she kept on singing about history and justice until almost the very end, even though she was saddled with poor health and had to use a wheelchair. The following video was shot in February this year — and that glorious voice never missed a beat.

Check out a blast from Odetta’s more distant past. And join me in mourning this amazing woman whose stirring alto will be missed on Inauguration Day… Let’s remember her with gratitude and joy.
